Fitness is a lifestyle! This is one thing I have learned and been transformed by at Crossfit Prescott. When I first walked in the gym here in Prescott, I was pretty skeptical. Crossfit has a pretty tough and critiqued reputation around the country. And the bottom line was that I didn’t need another physical outlet in my life. I needed something altogether different. And that’s exactly what I found. Crossfit Prescott, for me, can be summed up like this. 1) COMMUNITY: I’m sick and tired of fitness being dialed down into putting on headphones and tuning out the world while sweating for 2 hours each day. Crossfit Prescott is about sharing fitness with others and overcoming physical challenges together! 2) Crossfit Prescott is about LIFELONG FITNESS. Joey doesn’t train us to move mountains in a matter of months. He trains us to climb mountains for the rest of our lives. No matter what stage of life you are in…..8-80 years old! Crossfit Prescott will help you climb up the mountain of life…one step at time. 3) CHALLENGE. If Crossfit Prescott wasn’t a challenge, it woudn’t be worth coming. It all began with a phone call to Joey Powell, Sept 2010. Since then my workout, fitness level, my life has never been the same. It has been OUTSTANDING. I am a Physical Therapist Assistant and I was of course apprehensive about the “Athletic Trainer” capability and knowledge of the human body and as to whether or not CrosssFit Prescott could train me without breaking me. Let me tell you that Joey Powell posses extensive knowledge with years of personal and professional experience in the field of Strength and Conditioning. CrossFit Prescott is the place to be if you are looking for a well organized, highly productive, time efficent, and even personally taylored workouts that produce great results. Joey is always there every step of the way to explain the reasons why he is having you perform an exercise and is there to help guide you with correct form and speed with each exercise. This gym is a wonderful way to excell towards looking great and feeling your best. I love CrossFit Prescott! In Sept 2010 I could not do one pull up. By Feb 2011 I was doing 6 of them and by July 2011 I could do 11 dead hang body weight pull ups. Started training 14 months ago. The highly productive, time-efficient training has been the first regular exercise program I have ever been able to stay with. I have a desk job, but enjoy field ornithology, and at 46 (at the time) overweight, and horribly out of shape with a knee injury, my ability to function in the field was greatly compromised. One year later, I have completed three week long field projects, I have lost 14 pounds with 15 to go, I am mobile again, and feel much better about myself, with the most actual strength I have had in my entire life. This is the real deal. I am a tightwad, and do not part with my money easily, but I cheerfully pay for the privilege of having Joey push me as far as he safely can. I’m dead beat when I leave the gym three times a week, but the pain is worth it.
CrossFit + Joey Powell = Amazing!!! I have been doing training at CrossFit Prescott for about a year and it has been the best workout ever! We stretch, warm up and Joey pulls us in a group and then explains/demonstrates the strength and conditioning. He can look everyone in the eye and know what weight to lift or press. He constantly studies and refines ways to improve our fitness and training. He runs an A+ program. My two daughters train at CrossFit Prescott and have dramatically increased their athletic ability in the sports they do (college volleyball player and level 10 gymnast). Their sport coaches KNOW the difference. We have even had a couple of scheduling conflicts and Joey has met us to start our workout early, just so we don’t have to miss. NOW THAT”S DEDICATION! Now that I’m 50 it is great to have a personal trainer EVERY time I workout. I look forward to a lifetime of fitness with Joey and Andrea. I have had previous experience working out with Crossfit in Tucson. Working out with Crossfit Prescott has been nothing short of being rewarding. As a firefighter for the City of Prescott it is important to workout with intensity and effectively; it helps me get myself and my crew home safe after long shifts servicing the Prescott area. Joey is my coach who is the principal and owner of Crossfit Prescott; and I can tell you that he is doing Crossfit right! Focusing on flexibility, being efficient and working on bio-mechanics with your body he has taken my already strong frame, and focus in on the weak areas making them strong. Joey and his team of professionals takes a personal care, working on what is important to you. Crossfit in general has become a fad or a cult, but Joey ignores these trends and does Crossfit the fundamental way like it was meant to be. Other gyms have a tendency to go hard and fast. This gym focuses on not hurting you, pushing you, and making you stronger and a healthy person.
I was referred to Joey at Crossfit Prescott by my physical therapist. I have recently been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia. Six months ago I didnt have the strength or energy to leave my house.I started training at Crossfit Prescott a few months ago. I am now much stronger, healthier, and happier. On the days when my body hurts, Joey will modify the workout to fit my needs. Joey has helped me get my quality of life and I am truly greatful.
Crossfit Prescott changed me…I am in law enforcement and started Crossfit approximately 1 year ago at Crossfit Prescott. I didn’t know much about Crossfit and I sent a note to Crossfit Prescott requesting some info. I wanted to get in better shape and improve my Physical Fitness Test (PT) score. The owner, Joey Powell, got back to me the very same day and we set up a meeting. From that first meeting I was hooked. It was more than simply a workout, it is a lifestyle including proper nutrition. I am at my lowest weight in a long time and I am in better shape than I have EVER been in. My PT scores went up drastically and now I look forward to the test rather than dreading it. I owe it all to Joey and Andrea Powell of Crossfit Prescott. They’re great people and it’s a very encouraging atmosphere. I highly recommend them to anyone of any skill level or age.
You will love it!!! My roommate and I noticed Crossfit Prescott when they moved into town from Prescott Valley. We gave them a try and couldn’t have been more impressed. The workouts were tough, but scalable for any fitness level. Working against the clock and with others at the same time brings out your competitive edge and makes you work harder, really getting a great workout every time. I have played very physical sports since elementary school and Crossfit has gotten me as physically fit as high school football three a day practices. As a 23 year old student and member of Air Force ROTC, physical fitness is high on my priority list. Since joining Crossfit Prescott 7 months ago, my Air Force physical fitness score has gone from 93 to 97 out of 100 and I have dropped 12 pounds.Crossfit Prescott is more than just a gym, it is also a great and diverse community. Best workout of my life!! I became interested in crossfit last December. I finally got the nerve to try it in March. That was all it took for me to become hooked. I have been an athlete my entire life. I have played soccer at a state and national level in high school, college, and on an air force team. I have been on college and professional dance teams, and I am an extreme sports junkie, and triathlete. I also happen to work in physical therapy. Yet none of those things compared to what crossfit brought into my life. I highly recommend crossfit to any age and any level. It not only gives you a workout that you can feel but it gives you a mental endurance that is unsurpassable. The conditioning and stamina the crossfit workouts give you help you to feel strong, healthy,and unstoppable both physically and mentally. I personally lost fat, improved muscle tone, and increased endurance, much faster then I have ever before.Crossfit Prescott and Joey Powell are amazing. Joey is an excellent trainer and is thoroughly experienced and trained in his field. If you give any workout one try in your life, let it be this one, you will not be disappointed.
Lift weights and your mood! Kick your endorphins way up with these fun/ctional workouts. I’m 40 and thought I would never be able to squat without knee pain again. It seemed counter-intuitive to do intense workouts that involve lots of squatting with heavy weights. In a matter of weeks, Joey Powell made it possible for me to squat with no knee pain. I’ve lost weight and gained muscle tone to boot. Don’t get discouraged by Joey’s crusty exterior – you will find in him a dedicated trainer that has your safety as his prime concern. The workouts are exhilaratingly hard – and the payoff is great.
CrossFit Prescott = results…. I started at CrossFit Prescott the first week of June 2010 to get in better shape (not necessarily to loose weight). The first six weeks of training, I lost a pound a week. After that I have plateaued due to the lean muscle I have gained but I feel better than ever and those close to me have complimented my more toned arms, legs, etc. I feel stronger both physically and mentally, another added benefit! CrossFit gave me confidence in my physical abilities that no gym work out has ever been able to give me (I have done it all, yoga, gym memberships, spinning, running, etc). The team atmosphere is really effective in keeping me accountable to my workouts. Joey is incredibly knowledgeable as well as he has a great attitude. Best of all, the workouts are tough but quick and always different so its impossible to get bored.
There’s something about it… I’m heading into my first full year with CrossFit Prescott & I can say with confidence that I am a better person because of it. I have lost 20 + pounds, have gained strength in areas that I didn’t know existed & have been part of a supportive community that is hard to find these days. I am stronger & feel more “fit” then I did when I was active in sports during high school. Joey Powell is an excellent trainer, a keen observer in technique & his ability to coach adjustments & improvements is beyond professional. The bond developed with the community of CrossFit Prescott is supportive, encouraging, well educated, welcoming & when we get together, we have a pretty good time. Do you want to feel Sturdy and Strong? I have never been an athlete, and at 50+ just starting to get into my body. I tried some other stuff, but CrossFit Prescott really works for me. I feel Sturdy, I feel Strong, and I know it just gets better everytime I work out there. Currently my goal is three times per week, and the Saturday Workout is just fun and great. Some team building and friendly, supportive competition. Joey Powell is a kick-in-the-head and when he cracks-me-up I find I can easily finish my workout. Great motivator! So, what are you waiting for? Do it!
Not to be missed! I’ve been an athlete for most of my life, competing in one sport or another for decades. I had considered myself to be at least somewhat knowledgeable of the efficacy and efficiency of a variety of training techniques but I was floored by how much I learned within the first 10 minutes of speaking with CrossFit Prescott’s owner, Joey Powell. His ability to discern errors in movement and technique and to quickly coach adjustments and improvements is matchless. On top of this, he has a wealth of experience in teaching functional fitness to a wide range of ages, from as young as three to as old as 60′s, 70′s, and even 80′s. And lastly, I need to speak to the sense of community engendered by this environment. Everyone, from the staff to the other members, is supportive, friendly, and extraordinarily helpful. Simply put, I cannot recommend the facilities enough. If you are truly interested in pursuing a path of fitness that will help you achieve your goals today and then stick with you for a lifetime then do yourself a favor and check the place out.
Not your ordinary gym! If you are looking for a first class experience and a new gym family Crossfit Prescott is your place. I started about 7 months ago and will never go anywhere else again. The personal attention you receive from the trainer is amazing. As a fairly new member I am astounded by the support I receive from other members. They are always there to cheer you on and keep you going. I have seen a profound improvement in my overall fitness as well as a reduction in my stress. This is unlike any other gym I have ever seen. They have a first class kids program as well. I have enrolled both my children and they love it! You will be thrilled with the results.
Best of the Best! As a holistic health practitioner and therapeutic energy therapist, life is about creating balance in all areas of life…physical fitness is tantamount to overall well being. I was a competitive athlete until my mid 40′s and the ‘life’ got too busy to maintain my level of fitness. I tried the usual gym routines and found them to be lacking in proper body mechanics and failed to get the results I was looking for. I’m 60 years young and have been training with Cross Fit since January. I appreciate having the focused coaching we all receive. I have lost 20 pounds and feel I’ve found a highly effective and fun place to continue the journey of a stronger, energy-filled ‘new’ senior!
More Results! I have done a lot of fitness type activities in my life, and at 57 I am currently in the best shape of my life! There is someone to watch your form, with easy to understand directions, and this is what I believe sets CrossFit Prescott apart from even other CrossFit operations. I recommend this training to all my massage clients, and as a RN, I see this as the best bang for the buck in fitness, both in dollars and in time.
Best Training in Town! I’ve been training at CrossFit Prescott for a little over a year now. At 56 I am 40 pounds lighter, have my blood pressure normal again and feel so great! I joined because I always have the trainer there coaching and helping me to refine my moves and helping me be the best that I can be. There is training and then there is correct training and this is the best training with explainations as to why and how-to with an ever watchful eye on my movements. If you want results this is the best place and best training in town, with the best trained coaches. I would never again go back to any other program. After having the best nothing else will do! CrossFit is for everyone, but there aren’t many that will ever do it. In life human nature tends to do what is easiest and most pleasing at the moment. Prime example, many want to loose weight, get in shape and many fully intend to, but can’t quit going to the kitchen for a snack, or making bad food choices. For most it is doing what pleases them at that moment. Our society has been programming us for the last 40+ years, “if it feels good do it”. That is why we as Americans are the fattest, most out of shape population in the world today. Most eat what they want when they want. They intend to exercise regularly, but most don’t. So it all comes down to choices, and then follow through, if you want to make that change.It is so interesting to watch the people on break in the next building over for CrossFit Prescott, (which represent most Americans) as we jog past them in our workout. I can only imagine what they are thinking as they watch us run by them as they sit and smoke, drinking sodas and eating donuts. The majority I’m sure are thinking, I’m sure glad that isn’t me, some are feeling guilty, while others say, I think that one of these days I’m going to do that, yet few if any ever make that change. Life is all about choices every day all day long. What choices will you make?
CrossFit’s training not so much about exercising and conditioning to live longer, but to live a much better quality of life no matter how long you live. Personally I want a top quality life for as long as I live. That is what motivates me. Will your life be instant gratification, or will it be quality? The choice is yours.
When I started at CrossFit Prescott in 2009, I was 240lbs and couldn’t run 100 feet without almost dying. My resting blood pressure was 160’s over low 100’s with max amount of medicine. After just 6 month’s I had lost 40lbs and my blood pressure is now normal with ¼ the medication. I hear friends say, I would never pay that much to work out, but many of those same people spend more on cigarettes and alcohol than I do to be healthy. More than being healthy, I feel like I’m in my 20’s again and I will soon be 57. Now you can understand why I am a CrossFit Lifer. Man I feel good!
It’s really quite simple, the choice is yours. Very few will choose to be totally fit. One thing that I can promise you, when you do eventually loose your health, you will pay your last dime to get it back, so why wait? Why not feel good for the rest of your life! Fitness and athletics have always been a big part of my life. Growing up in New York City, the local YMCA was my second home. I have always enjoyed the mental and physical benefit exercise has given me and I was very content with my little exercise routine. Then…my daughter begged me to go to CrossFitCHAOS one Saturday morning. I was hooked after one workout. The first thing I love is that everyone arrives tired and morning ugly, wearing their best old “T” shirt and shorts, getting sweaty and dirty. It was great to see people actually working out and forgoing the “club” fashion show and “buzz” sessions. CrossFit and coach Joey teach fundamentals and guide every member thru the CrossFit basics until you are ready to join the workout of the day. Secondly, it is fun, new, and challenging. I feel as we age, we tend to stay in our own comfort zone, and it is harder to get the maxim benefit out of exercise programs because they are so repetitious. Not so at CrossFitCHAOS. Every day is different and never the same. I don’t feel like it is the same ole’ same ole’. Lastly, I spend less time working out at CrossFit and I am using muscles that have not been used in years. I also don’t have to think about what to do because when I drive up to the “Box”, it is all on the wall waiting for ME, along with Brussel (the dog).
Like most people, I have tried every possible diet and program out there to lose weight and, again, like most people have failed. In February 2009 I walked into the gym not expecting to find much of anything that would keep my interest for long. I was pleasantly surprised when I was introduced to Joey Powell. He explained the concept of CrossFit to me and I was intrigued. It only took a few personal training sessions and some diet counseling before I was hooked. I have lost 25 lbs and am well on my way to being in the best shape I have been in since high school. With my busy schedule as a small business owner, the Chaos Compound has quickly become my escape from the stresses of everyday life.
